Blastoise

Say it: BLAS-toys

Kids summary (simpler)Tap to expand

Blastoise is the Shellfish Pokémon — Water from Squirtle → Wartortle → Blastoise. In Pokémon GO it is a Water attacker and can Mega Evolve into Mega Blastoise. Water helps against Fire, Ground, and Rock; Grass and Electric hit Water hard. Hydro Cannon from Community Day (or an Elite TM) is its best Water charged move.

Say it: BLAS-toys

Blastoise (#009) is a Water Pokémon in Pokémon GO — the final form of Squirtle. Trainers use it as a Water raid attacker (especially Mega Blastoise for Water lobby boost) with Water Gun / Bite + Hydro Cannon. Against Blastoise, lead with Grass or Electric. Stats, type chart, moves, and counter picks below use our Game Master snapshot.

Pokédex notes

Blastoise is a Water raid backup and occasional PvP body with Hydro Cannon. Mega Blastoise helps Water lobbies when available.

Where in GO: Evolution, Mega raids, Community Day

Invest tip: Priority Community Day move: Hydro Cannon (Elite Charged TM if you missed Squirtle Community Day). Water Gun + Hydro Cannon is the usual Water kit; Ice Beam and Flash Cannon add coverage. Shadow Blastoise is the raid DPS pick; keep a non-Shadow for Mega. Farm Mega Energy from Mega Blastoise raids and events.

Type matchups

  • Water moves hit Fire, Ground, and Rock hard.

When Blastoise is your opponent, Electric, Grass hits hard.

Mega Evolution

Blastoise can Mega Evolve into Mega Blastoise (still Water). Mega Evolution uses Candy plus Mega Blastoise Energy, boosts Water attackers in the raid lobby, and only one Mega or Primal can be active at a time. Shadow Blastoise cannot Mega Evolve — purify first if you want the Mega.
