Elite TM & Second Charged Moves
When to buy a second charged move, Elite TM vs regular TM, and staple moves worth unlocking.
Kid-friendly
Kid version: Some Pokémon can learn two charged moves — good for PvP tricks. Elite TMs pick special moves — save them for Pokémon you really use.
Metas and raid DPS change with updates. Verify live teams on Pokebattler and PvP ranks on PvPoke before spending Stardust or XL candy.
Elite TM & Second Charged Moves
Second charged move basics
Most Pokémon can learn **two charged moves** after you pay Stardust + Candy (amount scales by tier). In PvP, a second move improves **shield baiting**. In raids, it rarely matters unless you need type coverage on one attacker.
**Do not** buy a second move on every favorite — pick Pokémon you use in **GBL** or **multi-type raid roles**.
Elite TM (ETM) vs Charged TM
| Item | What it does | |------|----------------| | **Charged TM** | Random legal charged move roll | | **Elite TM** | Pick **one** legacy/community move the Pokémon lost access to | | **Elite Fast TM** | Same for fast moves (rarer use cases) |
ETMs are **seasonal rewards** (GBL rank, GO Battle Day, special research). Hoard until you know the exact move you need.
High-value ETM targets (check before spending)
Always verify on **PvPoke** / **Pokebattler** — this list is educational, not live meta gospel:
- **Feraligatr** — Hydro Cannon (Community Day legacy)
- **Swampert** — Hydro Cannon
- **Talonflame** — Incinerate (fast) or legacy charged picks depending on format
- **Dialga / Palkia** — raid/PvP legacy charged options when relevant
- **Shadow Metagross** — Meteor Mash if missing
Workflow
1. Build the Pokémon to the league/raid level you need **first**. 2. Check if the move is **already obtainable** via evolution or event. 3. Use **regular TM** if any roll is acceptable. 4. Use **ETM** only for a **named** move that unlocks a new role.
Stardust math
Second move cost hurts new accounts. Priority order:
1. One great **Great League** team with dual moves on core switches 2. One **type** of raid attacker per common boss typing 3. Luxury second moves on favorites
See **Recommended Movesets** chapter for per-species suggestions.
